How Your Church Can Access Nonprofit Security Grant Funding
Churches and other houses of worship face new safety challenges today. The good news: FEMA’s Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP) is providing $274.5 million in funding in 2025 to help nonprofits/churches like yours to strengthen security.
As a church leader, you may be wondering:
Does my church qualify?
How much funding can we get?
And what can it be used for?
Who Is Eligible?
FEMA designed this program specifically for nonprofits at risk of security threats—including churches, synagogues, mosques, faith-based schools, and other 501(c)(3) organizations.
If your church is recognized as a nonprofit, you’re eligible to apply. Let us help you see if you are eligible 👉 schedule a call that works best for you.
How Much Funding Is Available?
+ Up to $200K per location (site)
+ Nonprofits with multiple locations can apply for up to three sites per state, with a maximum of $600K total
That means a single church with several campuses could secure hundreds of thousands of dollars to invest directly into safety.
What Can the Money Be Used For?
FEMA funding is not for everyday expenses—it’s focused specifically on security enhancements.
Your church can use the grant for things like:
+ Security cameras, access control, and alarm systems
+ Reinforced doors, locks, and protective window film
+ Lighting and fencing around your property
+ Security training for staff and volunteers
+ Emergency planning and drills (like active shooter or evacuation exercises)
+ Temporary contracted security personnel
+ Cybersecurity improvements
What’s Not Covered?
It’s important to note: FEMA funds can’t be used for hiring permanent staff, routine maintenance, or religious activities. The money must go directly toward improving security.
